What's it all about

Spokke (by Tim Grewcock and Shaun Lowthian aka The Homunculus) is a comedy crime drama in the burgeoning and bleak West Country-Noir genre. Two rival policemen from neighbouring constabularies investigate the theft of bike with all the solemnity of a gruesome murder.

Spokke was filmed in Sharpness and Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in January 2018 on a micro-budget.

The full 5x 5-minute episode mini-series is now available on Punkanary On-Demand! Here here to watch

We've assembled an amazing cast and crew, including talent from shows like Plebs, Four Weddings & A Funeral, Emmerdale, Murder in Successville, Borderline and more. We hope you'll love them as much as we do!

Next up, we're looking at 2 possible avenues:

1) Firstly, we'd love to raise funds for our next comedy short project. Working title: Das Barge/The People's Boat. It's Apocalypse Now set on the canals of Brexit Britain, as a team of visionaries take to the waters to try to save a stranded Remain campaign team before a second referendum. We have a script ready for this and keen to film in 2019. This is deliverable for £1-2k

2) An anthology 4-5 episode mini-series on British culture (title tbc): while Spokke answers what would look like if the UK had to make its own Scandi Noirs, its just one aspect of the minutiae of British life that will change in the next 10 years (don't mention the B-word!). We envisage a mini-series of which Spokke is the trailer/pilot. Das Barge is another episode. We also have treatments or scripts for 3-4 other episodes looking at design, sport, performing arts, each with a different presentational look-and-feel (war film, mockumentary, corporate briefing video, etc), but all broadly addressing what Britain looks like in the 2020s. These could be packaged together, but will have distinct look-and-feel to act as stand-alone short films for entering to festivals/awards consideration. Approx £5-6k needed for this (£1-2k per film).

It was an absolute delight to be nominated for a Writers' Guild Award for Best Online Comedy for Spokke. Here's writers Tim and Shaun in their Sunday Best for the ceremony last week. Scandi jumpers were unfortunately not in the dress-code.

We've been really lucky to pop-up with Spokke at a bunch of amazing film festivals in the last few months, and very excited to pick up a Writers' Guild Awards' Nomination for Best Online Comedy too! Fingers and pedals crossed for the ceremony in Jan!

The writing, acting, directing and editing team of Spokke are all improvisers based out of London's The Free Association Theatre. This informs the way we work collaboratively and flexibly on-set and establishes a common tone of voice. We'd cast from these connections.

Even so, we can't work in a vacuum, and we'd love to make some new connections on the technical side of things especially. We got really lucky availability-wise with our Spokke team, so we're keen to meet and build a pool of more cinematography, sound and production legends to collaborate with.
